Hello to all our supporters and readers of the Emerge Australia newsletter!
It is hard to believe we are only weeks away from the end of the financial year which means we are already half-way through 2025. I don’t know about you but that is a scary thought – I am sure time is flying by at a faster rate than ever before!!
And what a year it has been to date! We have endured a Federal Election like no other delivering the ALP it’s largest majority ever. As a sector we are hopeful that once the dust settles and Parliament re-commences in July, that as a sector we are able to ensure the voices of our community are seen, heard and acted upon.
There are many ways in which Emerge Australia continues to advocate for policy changes across a number of priority areas in collaboration with others. We are actively involved with the NDIA in advocacy on changes to assessment of functional impairment through various working groups among other NDIS challenges. We are also working with the Neurological Alliance of Australia to develop a National Action Plan/Blueprint for neurological conditions which includes a Neuro Nurse Workforce Strategy that is of specific interest
We look forward to the work of the Guideline Development Committee commencing their work on updating Australia’s clinical guidelines and hearing on progress as it occurs. Full implementation of Recommendation 8 of the long COVID Inquiry continues to be high on Emerge Australia’s agenda and to that end we will continue to focus on those priorities in all our advocacy.
We thank everyone who wrote in and supported us in our condemnation of the recent SBS Insight Report on ME/CFS. The final edited product was an insult to those with ME/CFS given the disproportionate amount of time allocated to one participant over all the others. The SBS Program perpetuated the gaslighting that occurs to people with ME/CFS and we await an outcome to our many formal letters of complaint to the network. We are grateful to reporter Amanda Meade of The Guardian for highlighting this issue in her recent article. Watch this space for any further information that we will pass on if we hear from SBS again!
